Propeller, North Fremantle–Pet friendly review

Propeller is a casual and quirky restaurant with an intimate feel in North Fremantle near Habitué and Flipside Burgers. Its built around an old refurbished bus garage with colourful murals on the outside walls.

The largest part of Propeller is this front outdoor area that has umbrellas and boxed seating as well as the shipping container ‘bar’ area. Its partially fenced with glass panels that reduce the road noise as give the place a ‘secret garden feel’. They also have a small outside area around the back and a traditional inside area with the kitchen.

We’re eating at 1pm and I’m a little disappointed that we’re on the lunch-dinner menu already. I’m a big fan of breakfast foods and would have preferred some brunch options  but there isn’t anything like that on this menu. In the end I opted for some of the baked offering which were very tasty if very naughty. The menu also contains a wine list, craft beers as well as a few cocktails.IMG_7736
Everyone at propeller welcomed Annie, there was a doggy water bowl waiting and one of the nice staff offered me a plastic take out tub to put some mascarpone in for Annie to lick.

We chose a table in the middle of the terrace next to the main path from street into the cafe. This meant that everyone passed by our table, Annie loved this as every single person (even tradies who stopped for take out coffee), stopped to tell Annie how cute she was. If not sure if it was an odd day or if Propeller is only frequented by beagle lovers!

We ordered long cafe macchiatos, a salted caramel slice and the grilled octopus, that came with potatoes, ham and a poached egg. The coffee was strong but tasty and the glasses were a reasonable portion size. The food was all nicely presented and I was surprised how pretty they managed to make the octopus dish look. The slice was very rich and lovely but I would have preferred to have it with clotted cream rather than vanilla mascarpone.

Coffee was $4.50, Cake $6.00, Octopus $23.00. The total bill came to $48.50

The food is interesting and tasty, and the service was very good too with helpful and attentive wait staff. There is also parking nearby on the street and in a small car park on the other side of the road.

We enjoyed our lunch but think it would be better spot for dinner. Propeller is open 8am til late everyday so it would be a good spot to have an outdoor dinner on a warm summer evening and that’s what we’ll try next.
